The carving course is designed to prepare students to work as professionals within the traditional disciplines of wood carving. Once qualified, students should be able to carry out replica and replacement carving within historic buildings and to work by commission for the heritage industry. They are encouraged to use traditional skills to produce contemporary work, especially in the letter carving and relief carving option. This programme develops from simple masonry and carving exercises to major architectural projects. It involves lettercutting and relief carving as well as work in the round and the study of the figure. Theoretical studies include geology, stone deterioration and an introduction to problems of conservation ethics.

£6,000 per year for Home/EU students £8,000 per year for Overseas students
Entry Requirements:
Applicants must have a well-developed interest in historic architectural or ornamental form. They should submit a portfolio showing evidence of drawing skills, three dimensional understanding and practical ability related to their chosen field.
